We are working on a documentary project about Okechi, that will include video interviews where his family and friends share their favorite memories about him.

If you’d like to be interviewed follow the instructions below. Additionally, we welcome any video or photo footage you have with Okechi, so we can include a wide range of perspectives of who he was to all of us. We would love to see him from your eyes. The way you knew him.

Self-Interview - You Interview You!

  1. RECORDING DEVICE. You can use your smartphone, computer, or video recorder.

  2. LOCATION, SURROUDINGS. Make sure to find a quiet place to conduct the interview, without any background noises or interruptions. Maybe you choose a place you regularly spent time with Okechi. However, do not worry too much about interruptions, as they can be edited out. The most important thing is choosing a place you want, and keeping background noises to a minimum.

  3. ATTIRE. Consider what you are wearing, how you’re dressed. You can dress and present yourself however you’d like, but note that it will be public.

  4. BE YOURSELF. Don’t try and sound the way you think you should sound on film, but speak as you would to someone who you’re telling about your friend, uncle, brother, cousin, doctor, nephew Okechi. The more honest the recording, the more the story resonates with others. We don’t need it to be clean and perfect, but as casual, heartfelt, and real as Okechi was.

  5. RECORDING.

    1. LANDSCAPE VIEWING. If you use a phone, make sure to hold it landscape or “sideways” and not vertical. Keep it straight, no tilts. Capture your waist up, at least, and not a close up of your face.

    2. SOUND. Make sure you speak clearly and loudly into the phone.

    3. LIGHT. Make sure there’s enough light around you to see your face, body and background clearly.

    4. TEST RECORDING. You can record for a minute or so, and then review it to make sure the picture and phone are clear.

  6. INTERVIEW QUESTIONS.

    1. INTRODUCTION. Introduce yourself, who you are to Okechi and who he was to you.

    2. MEMORIES. Share your memories of Okechi, and any stories that he often told you. This is where you share whatever you want. Also share the last time you spoke to him or saw him.

    3. WHO OKECHI WAS. Share who he is not only to you, but to those around him, and what his legacy is. What is his contribution to the world?

    4. OKECHI IN A WORD(S). If you could find a word, or many single words, to describe him, what would that be?

    5. SHARE OBJECTS OR LOCATIONS. Feel free to show us any item(s), or location(s) that were meaningful to you and Okechi’s relationship. Make sure to keep the video steady if you are moving the recording device around. Make sure not to cut off any part of it, and that what you’re showing us is clearly visible. This part can be another recording separate of the interview if need be.

  7. SUBMITTING VIDEO. Submit your videos to Olaocha at celebratingokechi@gmail.com or akukoanyi@gmail.com. If the video is too large, let her know and she can help you deliver the video. You can also upload it to your cloud (google drive, dropbox, icloud) and submit it as a shared link Olaocha can download, send as a text (not WhatsApp because it reduces the video/image quality), or mail a flash drive with the file.

COLLECTION OF INTERVIEWS IS ONGOING!!!

PLEASE SUBMIT OR REACH OUT!

Thank you so much in advance! Contact Olaocha with any questions.

Send any personal videos or photos of or with Okechi to CelebratingOkechi@gmail.com.
